Modern Age

Modern age represents the period in human history where deep changes occur on political, cultural, ideological, social and economical plan.

The modern state is a constitutional state, based on the principle of separation of powers as a model of governance of a state. The Constitution becomes the fundamental law, whose principles stand as basis for the entire activity of the society. In this period, the relation between the state and individual changes. The king's burgher from Middle Ages becomes a citizen with fundamental rights, whom the state is obliged to protect.

In the history of Romanians, the modern age comprises almost a century and unfolded between two major events:  the Revolution led by Tudor Vladimirescu in 1821 and the forming of the unified Romanian national state in 1918. This period is characterized by the same process of modernization of the entire Romanian society structure.
